Consul General Zhang Meifang visited the Chinese Chamber of Commerce NI

On January 11, 2019, accompanied by Deputy Consul General Zhu Songhua and Consul Zhang Peng, the newly appointed Chinese Consul General in Belfast Zhang Meifang was invited to visit the Chinese Chamber of Commerce NI(CCCNI), during which she had friendly exchanges with the head of CCCNI and visited the Chinese Resource Centre in Northern Ireland.

On behalf of the Consulate General of P. R. China in Belfast, Zhang Meifang extended New Year's greetings to the local Chinese community, expressing her appreciation for the enthusiasm of the local overseas Chinese in Northern Ireland at the beginning of her post, which reflected great kindness and encouragement for the Chinese Consulate General. Zhang Meifang spoke highly of CCCNI's commitment to the service for the overseas Chinese in Northern Ireland and its positive contribution over the past 35 years since its establishment to carrying forward Chinese traditional culture, promoting the great cause of peaceful reunification of China, enhancing the mutual understanding and friendship between the people of China and UK, and boosting cooperation between China and Northern Ireland. Zhang Meifang hoped that CCCNI would continuously strengthen its own construction, unite the overseas Chinese in Northern Ireland and strive to build a harmonious Chinese community in Northern Ireland, so as to contribute to the development of China-NI relations.

Zhang Meifang also stated that the Chinese Consulate General would continue to adhere to the concept of "putting people first, diplomacy for the people" and keep communication with CCCNI as always, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the overseas Chinese in Northern Ireland, provide warm, attentive and considerate service for the vast number of overseas Chinese in the district and work hard for the benefits of overseas Chinese.

The chairman of CCCNI Huang Weicheng and other leaders of overseas Chinese groups warmly congratulated Zhang Meifang on her new post and expressed the commitment of the CCCNI to its due role in promoting the further development of the overseas Chinese community in Northern Ireland with the guidance of the Consulate General. The CCCNI will also continue to uphold the patriotic tradition, serve as the bridge linking China-UK and China-NI friendly exchanges and cooperation, and make greater efforts to deepen the development of the Golden Era of China-UK relations.

Founded in 1983, CCCNI has 750 members and several sub institutes including Chinese Language School, Oi Kwan Women's Group (N.I), Chinese Welfare Association and Hoi Sum Elderly Group, etc. With the aim to unite overseas Chinese in Northern Ireland to carry forward Chinese traditional culture and promote China-UK and China-NI exchanges and cooperation, CCCNI has made positive efforts to build a harmonious overseas Chinese community and integrate into the mainstream by organizing festivals, lectures and various cultural and recreational activities.
